Close your eyes for a minute (after reading this of course) and visualize your perfect day.
What are you doing? Who are you with? How do you feel? Where are you? Do you still work the same job? Are you surrounded by the same friends? Pursuing the same dreams?
That right there–your ultimate vision for yourself–can be your reality. I know it sounds like a stretch. You’re probably thinking, yeah right–maybe if I had an extra $100,000 or a different job or lived somewhere cool or …*insert excuse here*.
Stop right there. You don’t need any of that to create the life you’ve always dreamed of. You know what you need? (And forgive me for being blunt.)
You need a big ole’ attitude change. You need a mindset shift. A different perspective.
No, we’re not in complete control of what happens to us. Yes, sometimes life throws us curveballs we couldn’t have predicted, stopped, or handled with grace. Life sucks sometimes. Stuff goes wrong. We lose people. We lose jobs. We lose ourselves.
But guess what? There’s a whole lot of good in there. Like…A LOT of good. Focus on that. Focus on what you can control.
And what you can control is how you react to, and what you create with, everything life hands you.
You know what else is cool? We get to hand life a lot of stuff, too. It’s not just a game of take what you get–it’s a game of, “create what you want.”
For instance: When life “hands you” a denied job application, you “hand life” a head nod and shoot back 20 more apps until the right one falls into place. And in the mean time, you keep crushing everything else with a positive attitude and a smile of determination on your face.
You’ve read the books and the blogs and listened to the podcasts–you KNOW that you’re suppose to think positive thoughts, speak positive affirmations into existence, align your energy with what feels authentic…so DO IT already. What the heck could you possibly be waiting for?
Quit feeling sorry for yourself because you got dumped or you didn’t get the job of your dreams or you’re not in the shape you used to be. Do something about it already.
Go back to that ultimate vision of yourself and start acting how that person would act. Go where they would go. Speak how they would speak. Pursue what they’d pursue. Settle for nothing less than exactly what you want out of life. Because I can tell you right now that life isn’t about to hand you your dream on a silver platter. If you want to eat–serve it up.
*Disclaimer: I’ve been that girl. The one who’s unhappy. The one who hates Mondays. The one who complains 24/7 but doesn’t do a single thing to change my situation. The one who feels stuck. The one who thinks all this positive thinking and affirmation BS is just that–BS.

Here’s how I got out of that funk and started living my dream life:
- Digesting positive entertainment and information: Read better books. Listen to better podcasts. Watch intuitive, educational shows. Fill your mind with stuff that fuels your dreams–not just fills in the cracks.
- Moving my body because it wants to: Go outside! Exercise. Move more. Go for walks. Your body craves movement and so does your mind–give it what it desires. (And don’t do it because you hate your body, do it because you WANT TO.)
- Eating tons of nutrients: Eat good food. It’s not that difficult. Drink plenty of water. Skip stuff you know makes you feel like crap.
- Going for it: Take the risk. Make the jump. Quit standing on the edge waiting for the right moment. That moment is here. That moment is now.
- Following my gut: Stop ignoring your intuition and start listening to exactly what your soul already knows is right for you. By following your gut, you’re reaffirming the trust you have in yourself–and trust is everything.
- Making and keeping better friends: You are the people you walk with. Take a look around and ask yourself, “Are these the types of people I want to be represented by?” If the answer isn’t a “Hell yes!” it’s a “No,” and it’s time to go.
- Trying new things: Jump, leap, throw yourself out of your comfort zone. Try everything new you can (besides drugs, obviously). Take a class. Read a new book. Go on a trip.
- Talking to strangers: We learn so much from people we don’t know/don’t relate to. Get out into the world and start talking to people who are different than you. Ask for their story. Tell them yours. Truly listen. Absorb that info. Grow.
- Keeping an open mind: You don’t know it all–I promise. Your thoughts and opinions about things are probably wrong or ill-informed in some cases. Be willing to learn. Be willing to listen.
- Understanding it won’t always work out: Think of it this way–When something doesn’t work out that you really wanted, it’s simply the Universe saving your ass from something that wouldn’t have been good for you.
If you implement these small changes into your every day life, I promise you’ll wake up one day, look around, and think to yourself, “How the Hell is this really my life? I really did this. I created my ultimate vision.”
And when that day happens–I want you to call me. Because that moment deserves a celebration.
