Habits — they’re hard to make and hard to break.
The good habits though, once worked continuously into your routine, can change your life. They make everything easier and add value to every day.
I’d love to hear what habits you swear by, so please drop them in the comments below. But for now, here are the 3 habits that I can’t live without.
- Reading. I take my book with me everywhere I go. On the treadmill? Yep. Long car rides? You know it. Short car rides? Also yes. To work for my lunch break? Check. Finding time to read can be difficult, but once you make it a part of your day, I promise you’ll reap the benefits. Benefits that include: increased motivation, relaxation, and an escape from the busyness of everyday life.
- Drinking lots of water. It’s true — there’s technically no scientifically proven “perfect daily amount” of water intake. In fact, our body’s ability to feel thirst is the most effective gauge of how much H2O you need. However, I’ve found that my brain and body both feel great and perform better when properly hydrated. Plus, daily hydration gives you a good excuse to purchase an adorable reusable water bottle to carry around. PSA: STOP USING DISPOSABLE WATER BOTTLES. DO IT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. PLEASE.
- Journaling. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “Just. Start. Journaling.” I was once the person who said, “I don’t have the time. Plus, I’ll never stick to it anyway.” UGH. SMH at 18-year-old Kaili. Without my journals I don’t know how I’d hold on to my sanity. Seriously. I write everything down. Every blissful moment so it never slips from my memory. Every stupid argument so I can work through how it happened and how to prevent it from happening again. Every person I meet so I never forget their name and how I met them. Every dog I see just in case I’m having a rough day and need a reminder of the beauty in life. (Only half kidding) Buy a journal already guys. You can thank me later.
