Food. It fuels you. It gives you energy to tackle your dreams, it satisfies your desire for good taste, and it’s oftentimes our greatest source of stress and worry. If you’re anything like me, grocery shopping can be frustrating and confusing. I find myself wandering the aisles with a half-empty cart wondering what the heck I should buy, picking up products and putting them back down, and questioning what I’m going to eat for the rest of the week.

Luckily, through a lot of trial and error, I’ve come up with my ultimate grocery list. Is this the best and only way to eat? No! Are there plenty of foods not on this list that you should/could be eating? Heck yes. But it’s a great start for somebody who wants to enjoy his or her food, eat simply, and fuel their body right. So grab your roomie, best friend, or whoever wants to tag along (because shopping together is always better) and let’s get going. PS: this list typically lasts me about a week & doesn’t include dairy products – because they make my belly sad.

 Produce

  • 4 bell peppers
  • 2 avocados
  • 1 container spinach
  • 1 container arugula or kale
  • 1 red onion
  • 5 apples
  • 4-5 bananas
  • 2-3 stone fruits
  • 1 package berries
  • 2 bags frozen fruit (SMOOTHIES!!!!)

Meat

  • 4 boneless & skinless chicken breast
  • 1 pound ground beef (Can be replaced with ground turkey)
  • 1 pork loin

 Other necessities

  • Brown rice or quinoa
  • 1 container egg whites
  • 1 container whole eggs
  • 1 container oats

 Snack-a-roos

  • 4-5 protein bars (My favorite right now are ONE bars: Birthday Cake flavor)
  • Raw almonds
  • 1 bar dark chocolate
  • Popcorn (I love SkinnyPop)
  • Pretzel Thins
  • Salsa

Sometimes

  • Gum
  • Walden Farms syrup
  • Salad dressing (Light Italian or Balsamic are my go-tos)

I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times, but having a list saves you time AND cash money. My other tips are: stick to the perimeter of the store, don’t be afraid to buy frozen produce, and look for deals – especially at the meat counter!

Hopefully this list can be your partner in crime on your next grocery extravaganza. Feel free to add and subtract as you see fit! Something vital you see missing? I’d love to hear what’s on your list!
